Fifteen pretend searches before you do a real one. Nobody is grading your typing.

In a few minutes you are going to look things up for real. Before that, fifteen
pretend searches: what goes in the box, which search is better, how to throw out what you don't want, which result to click, and who to
believe when two pages disagree. No timer, no lives. Stop whenever you want and you keep what you earned.
How it works
1 · Fewer words. Someone asks a question out loud. Click the words that belong in the search box. 2 · Better words. Three searches for the same thing. Pick the one that finds it. 3 · Narrow it down. Quotes, the minus sign, and site:. Fix a search that brought back junk. 4 · Which one do you click? A pretend results page. Pick the result worth opening. 5 · Who is telling you? Two pages say different things. Decide who to believe, and why.
Every website in here is made up. Every address ends in ".example" so you know.
Why this one
Most people type the whole question into the box, click the first thing, and believe it.
That works fine right up until it doesn't, and you won't be able to tell when it stopped working.
Looking things up is a skill, the same way reading is. This is eight minutes of practice
on things that don't count, so the real search goes better.
Run complete
Fewer words. Better words. Quotes to keep words together, minus to throw words out. Read the address before you click.
When pages disagree, ask who wrote it and how they know. That is the whole thing — now go do it for real.
Hidden challenge — claim it
When you search for real next, write down the first search you actually type, word for word,
and the address of the first page you trust, with one reason you trust it.
Write it on your ledger card.
Molly checks it Thursday. The game does not mark this one.
